Module 7

Module 7
Learning Objectives:
·         Explore social bookmarking and sharing resources on the web.
·         Create a Delicious or Diigo account.
·         Install the Delicious or Diigo extension for your browser.
·         Find another Delicious or Diigo user and add them to your network.
·         Read and comment on blogs of other course participants.
·         Create a blog post reflecting on your learning about social bookmarking and blogging in Module 7.

 24/10/13

The main benefits of using Delicious or Diigo are:
Keep links to your favourite articles, blogs, music, restaurant reviews, and more on Delicious.
Access your bookmarks from any computer on the web.
Share favourites with friends, family, and colleagues.
Discover new things that others have found.
Organise your bookmarks through tagging them with keywords and personalised notes.
Create a group to share resources. Join other groups to access their resources.

I explored both bookmarking sites and decided on Delicious - not sure why but it just appealed more.

I opened a Delicious account and added some sites I use but I don’t seem to have the toolbar so I am not sure about some of the other instructions about the extension, etc
But I have managed to download the app onto my iPad so hopefully I can learn about how to use it there….

I found someone to follow; her name is Judy O’Connell so that appealed :-) and her blog is: heyjude.wordpress.com
I don’t know how often I’ll read her stuff but it’s a start I guess. I found a good article about BYOD (bring your own device): http://k12blueprint.com/sites/default/files/BYOD-Planning-Implementation-Framework.pdf
and I will share this with the teachers at school.

I read Daniel Avano’s blog and made a comment - looks much more impressive, and picturesque, than mine!! So I have added a photo so that I feel better :-)

I can’t work out how to do this without the toolbar so I need to investigate further - I am feeling a bit frustrated at the moment and a bit tech-incompetent!

I think I need to talk to a "real" person in order to solve my current issues....

I made a collage

I think I'm clever....hope you do too!!

Module six

Module 6
Learning Objectives:
  • ·         Sign in to Picasa web and search for photos on a topic.
  • ·         Upload some photos to Picasa.
  • ·         Edit photos, set permissions, assign tags to photos.
  • ·         Explore options for sharing photos.
  • ·         Consider copyright issues by exploring available resources.
  • ·         Optional: create a movie or collage of your photos.
  • ·         Create a blog entry about your experiences in this module and strategies to deal with copyright issues.

24/10/13
I have used the Picasa app through my blogs but it is good to download the web album for much easier use!!

Done often so this activity didn’t take long

Again - something I have done already

I have edited some photos and made a collage - these could be a time consuming (wasting?) exercises if you chose to do it too much

Tried that by sharing my collage - I wonder what the response will be?

I read about Teacher Tube and Youtube, in particular I noted these questions and answers:
Can I copy TeacherTube videos from home and use them as part of my teaching practice?
The TeacherTube terms and conditions state that videos may be downloaded for personal or classroom educational use, provided:
there is a link to TeacherTube in any presentation, website or other form of media in which the downloaded video is included; and
the author of the video is credited.
Risk Management Tips for Teachers Using YouTube
Don't use content that is likely to be an infringing copy.
Only use YouTube videos for the purpose of teaching.  There should be no commercial benefit.
Only use what you need.
Check that you can't purchase or readily license the content that you need from another source.
Don't expose the content to further copying or communication, such as giving students access to an electronic file that they could copy.

I made a collage but a movie isn’t what I think I need to do at this point

The content of this module was largely material I had some knowledge of already so it was good to learn more and try a few different things

Module five

Module 5
Learning Objectives:
·         Use a mind mapping tool Bubbl.us, to record and organise your ideas about the use of Web 2.0 tools to enhance learning
·         Explore Glogster EDU and its uses in learning.
·         Learn how to make a Prezi.
·         Create a blog entry about your experiences in Module 5 or how you might use mindmapping, glogster, or prezi in the classroom.

24/10/13
Bubbl.us is very similar to idea sketch, an iPad app which I have used before for mind mapping - kids get right into it.

Not too sure about Glogster - also the Glog I tried to view wasn’t available and sent me to a very dodgy looking page! At this point I don’t know that I would use this tool as it is probably pitched more at secondary schools so I am moving on….

I LOVE Prezi and have used it a lot, with students, with teachers and for personal projects

I feel confident with the tools I am learning about and what I have tried already - this is really motivating me to keep going

Module four

Module 4

Learning Objectives:
§  Learn about Podcasts and Vodcasts.
§  Explore iTunes.
§  Learn how to create and edit your own video.
§  Visit video sites such as YouTube.
§  Create a blog entry about your learning experiences in module 4 and how you might use Digital Storytelling in your classroom.
24/10/13

Personal On Demand broadcasting - there’s something I have learned!
I also checked out 50 Educational Podcasts you should check out and while I have viewed TED before there are a lot of others there I would like to explore and share with others.
24/10/13

I managed to sign into iTunes U as a course manager (don’t ask me how) and when I had to upload a photo I really struggled to find one….Trouble is I have used my old iTunes email address so I need to learn how to change that. DONE!!
I have listened to an ABC Podcast - Exceptional teachers for disadvantaged schools - very interesting and very relevant to me - this is such a great Qld program that could also be adopted in Victoria
24/10/13

I have even worked out how to create a video - I am amazed at how easy some of this technology is!! http://animoto.com/play/fQxBj2Zi0P0IZrE41dce7Q
Now I have to think about how I could use this for professional projects
I have also signed up for Animoto plus and been given a promo code: a4eo'coc45d08 - no idea when I use that but I guess I will find out in time
24/10/13

I have some familiarity with Youtube and Teacher tube - I tried to sign into School tube but it didn’t recognise the school I work at so I gave up.
24/10/13

As I am not teaching in a classroom at this moment this is not really for me so I will pass for now
24/10/13

Making my own video and listening to Podcasts open up lots of opportunities that I can see myself using in the future. A really exciting step forward and I see lots of value in these technology tools for teachers.

Module three

Finally finished - this one has taken me AGES - I finally decided I just had to make time to work on it...

I watched this video and want to share it with the teachers at school: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eRqUE6IHTEA
I have used Google docs just to read and comment so far – I look forward to investigating further
Having now seen what I could do with  Google Drive I am amazed. I already had Dropbox but this appears to be even better – must try.

18/9/13
I tried getting into http://docs.melb.catholic.edu.au/ but it didn’t work – not sure why! I don’t work in a CENET member diocese so that’s no use either. I can only get in via Global2 so far – more to investigate, obviously.
I tried uploading my file of reflections – it appears to be taking its time but I am hopeful it will get there eventually!!
Hmmm – should have read the Diocese notes earlier: Activity 2:  This activity is not relevant for Melbourne participants
Activity 3: Atomic Learning is a subscription based service. You can learn more about creating Google Docs at the Google Docs Community Channel on YouTube.
24/10/13
Nope – Atomic Learning doesn’t appear available either – in the meantime I will go back to Youtube to see what I can find out!
The Google Docs community channel is great – all I need to do is upload some documents and I should be able to start sharing!!

24/10/2013

So now I have learned how to share…..but who do I want to share with? An interesting question I must ponder...

24/10/2013

An interesting discovery - I can view the three videos but not “71 interesting ways to use Google forms in the classroom”, the invitation that was sent to selected teachers explaining the process for engaging with kids - I guess I am not a selected teacher :-(
BUT I will try creating my own form, just to see if I can!
I wonder what Greg will think?

I feel like I have made a breakthrough in my understanding of Google Docs and I look forward to continuing to feel this way - onto module 4!!
