Module two - Exploring the use of blogs in K -12 learning spaces

Learning Objectives:

• Learn about blogs.
• Create your own blog and add your learning reflections in Module 1.
• Add your details and blog URL to the list of Blogs.
• Find out more about the educational use of blogs.
• Learn how teachers use Twitter in the classroom.
• Create a blog entry about your learning experiences in this module.

1 Activity 1: Learn about Blogs	14th August	An interesting video – I had seen a similar one about the difference between blogs and wikis so I’m feeling pretty OK about it
2 Activity 2: Create your own blog to capture your learning reflections throughout the course	14th August	I watched the video but can’t get into “blogger” at school so will have to wait until I can before I do that – I already have a Global2 account and have set up a blog for that so at least I have an idea of what to do!!
3 Activity 3: Using and customising Blogger	15th August	I have set up my blog and shared the address, made my first post and got excited!!
4 Activity 4: Enter your details and blog URL in the course 'Blog List'.	15th August	I’m on the list and raring to go – if only this worked at school too I would be right into it….. And I’ve just realised I can add the other blogs I’m a part of – wow!! I have done more than I think I have J
5 Activity 5: Find out more about the educational use of blogs.		“Boys blogging books” looked good – pity it closed when the boys moved on to other pursuits. The Edublog awards slideshow was interesting and gave me some ideas I will investigate further, especially apps and other information sources – I will investigate the nominees for  Best web tool:  Twitter (see box below) Glogster EDU DropBox  (I have an account already) Edmodo  Pinterest and Best mobile apps: Flying Books App, Evernote, Night Zookeeper Drawing Torch,  DropBox and Fluency Finder
6 Optional Activity: Join Twitter.	29th August	I set up a Twitter account ages ago but I haven’t really used it – not sure I am that committed to it at this stage

Module one Web 2.0 and personalising your Web space

• Get an overview of Web 2.0 through YouTube.
• Visit a site for teachers to see a list of Web 2.0 tools with links to tutorial.
• Get started with Google Apps for Education.
• Join Google Plus.
• Learn about Google Plus and Google Hangouts.

3 Activity 2: Visit sites for teachers to see a list of web 2.0 tools with links to tutorials	13th August	Lots of interesting things to explore, some I know about already
4 Activity 3: Get started with Google	13th August	I already have a gmail account so I am ready to go…..
5 Activity 4: Join Google Plus	13th August	Joined it at home but I can’t access it at school – yet…
6 Optional Activity: Google Hangouts	14th August	I watched the two videos – it looks good, similar to Skype, Facebook, MSN but more – I’m not sure I am quite ready for that yet but I look forward to learning more!!
